"The creation and implementation of Oncourse has enabled us to develop the application aggressively in ways that are responsive to new learning technologies and unique to the learning needs of the University." Students can use Oncourse to view their class information, send course-related E-mail, post assignments online or hold chat room sessions with classmates.Īs manager for online learning technologies, Fern will provide leadership to the Oncourse Team and oversee the project.
Oncourse is an online course management environment, developed at IU, that allows faculty to post syllabi, grades and assignments so students can access their class information via the Internet. A member of the Oncourse Implementation Team during spring 1999, Fern served as a faculty liaison in this application development project to ensure faculty review and recommendations were included in the new release of Oncourse that became available to the University in July 1999 for fall semester classes ( ). Fern is an Assistant Professor of Music at IUPUI and Interim Director of the Indiana Learning Collaborative, a consortium of formal and informal education partners whose primary goal is to enhance student achievement in the state of Indiana.
